Seasonal Basketball Job Descriptions 


JOB POSITION: Basketball Referees*
*This is a summer seasonal job opportunity
 
Reports to: Basketball Coordinator
Hourly Rate: $15.00-$18+/hour DOE
Position: Part-Time, 12-15 hours/weekly; July-August. Hours may vary depending on responsibilities/scheduling.
Monday-Thursday nights with occasional Friday and Sunday nights built into the schedule.
 
Basketball Referees
General responsibilities include officiating basketball games of various ages and skill levels.
 
As a referee your job will be to ensure the game is played safely and fairly. The referee enforces the rules of the game and in a game will make hundreds of decisions – determining when a violation or foul occurs and then stopping the game to issue the correct penalty. We are looking for referees who are willing to carry a positive attitude and will remain impartial throughout each game. We are also looking for referees who are willing to communicate with players about what they did incorrectly and how to avoid committing that same error.  Must have experience refereeing youth games. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and be available to work Monday-Thursday nights with occasional Friday and Sunday nights built into the schedule.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Officiate basketball games in accordance with standard basketball rules and league rules
  • Maintain a safe and friendly playing atmosphere
  • Ensure player safety
Minimum Qualifications
  • 18 or older
  • Advanced knowledge of the game of basketball
  • Experience refereeing youth
 
Required Training
  • All hired candidate will be required to complete an online basketball referee course
  • Blood borne pathogen training

Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee frequently is required to sit, stand, walk, bend and the ability to respond to emergencies. The employee may need to occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Position requires sitting for extended periods of time. Must have sufficient visual and auditory acuity to respond to emergencies in a timely manner in a busy basketball environment.
 
Work Environment
This job operates in a recreational environment. This role routinely uses standard recreation equipment such as standard basketball, first aid, and cleaning equipment. At times, employees may be exposed to undesirable working conditions, communicable infectious diseases, and risk of injury from others. The work environment noise level will vary based on the capacity of the basketball courts and surrounding areas.

Position: Part-Time, 5-15 hours/weekly; June-August. Hours may vary depending on responsibilities/scheduling.
Monday-Thursday nights with occasional Friday and Sunday nights built into the schedule.
 
Basketball Scorekeeper
General responsibilities include keeping an accurate game clock, game score, and fouls.
 
The scorekeeper's primary responsibility is to accurately record a game's score. Each time a team scores one or more points, the scorekeeper must post the updated score on the scoreboard. The scorekeeper will also be responsible for keeping time by starting and stopping the clock according to the rules of the game. The Scorekeeper will work hand in hand with our bookkeeper (stat recorder), as they will be working side by side. Applicants must have a thorough knowledge of the game of basketball, at least 16 years of age, and be available to work Monday-Thursday nights with occasional Friday and Sunday nights built into the schedule.

Basketball Stat Keeper
The Stat Keeper will work hand in hand with our Scorekeeper, as they will be working side by side. Stat Keeper (Or bookkeepers) will be in charge of recording all league game stats for the entirety of our season. As a Stat Keeper you will be responsible for recording the following: points, rebounds, assists, blocks and steals to the best of your ability. Must have familiarity with the game of basketball, be at least 16 years of age, and be available to work Monday-Thursday nights with occasional Friday and Sunday nights built into the schedule.
